Pink Benin Rider

Artist Talk in English with Modupeola Fadugba, moderated by Barbara Plankensteiner (Director MARKK)
Starting in June, the exhibition Benin. Stolen History will feature the work Pink Benin Rider (2025) by the emerging Nigerian artist Modupeola Fadugba, which was donated to MARKK at the beginning of the year. In this conversation, Fadugba offers insights into her artistic practice, which engages with the legacy of the Kingdom of Benin and the tradition of bronze casting.

Grindel envisions the future

Program as part of Hamburg Sustainability Week in the Grindel District
Re:invent Grindel is the forward-thinking, co-creative community within the Grindelverein that is helping to shape the future of Grindel through initiatives focused on sustainable education. During Hamburg Sustainability Week (June 26 – July 3, 2026), MARKK will be the week’s destination! A neighborhood demonstrates how and with what a livable future is created. In MARKK’s summer garden, there will be dialogue, networking, and courage for the future.

Julius Konietzko and Arthur Byhan – Two Hamburg Ethnologists in Sardinia

Book presentation of “The Sardinian Collection 1926–1931” with Giovanni Masala, co-author. Moderator: Dr. Anna Laug (MARKK)
Drawing on previously unpublished letters, photographs, and artifacts, Giovanni Masala reconstructs the journeys of the Hamburg ethnologists Arthur Byhan and Julius Konietzko to Sardinia in 1926 and 1931.
